St. Louis cop accused of hitting suspect with flashlight
ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis police officer faces charges for allegedly striking a suspect in the head and face with a flashlight hard enough to break his jaw.
Prosecutors on Wednesday charged 40-year-old Adam Feaman with second-degree assault and armed criminal action in an altercation that was captured on cellphone video.
Authorities say it happened when police went to Jamal White’s apartment to tow his car in August 2017. White, who is black, came out. Feaman then told him he was under arrest.
White began to run while asking why he was being arrested. The video from an onlooker appears to show Feaman catch up and strike him in the face, knocking White to the ground, then striking him in the head.
Police say Feaman was suspended Wednesday. His attorney declined comment Thursday.
The probable cause statement identifies Feaman as African-American.
