‘Just … nobody died’: P.E.I. reporter’s tweet explaining why no obits were printed goes viral
Where are all the dead people?
When a P.E.I. newspaper didn’t publish any obituaries last Thursday, readers were confused.
Some concerned Journal Pioneer readers called the paper, wondering if an error had been made, since “death is big news” in the community.
Reporter Colin MacLean, 32, took to Twitter to clarify, no mistake had been made, they just hadn’t received any death notices from local funeral homes.
“There were no obituaries in today’s paper,” MacLean wrote. “People are calling, wondering what happened to them. Just … nobody died.”
His tweet has since gone viral with almost 25,000 likes.
MacLean told CBC’s As It Happens people are comparing the lack of obituaries to Torchwood: Miracle Day, the season of the Doctor-Who spinoff where no one on Earth can die.
Others worried it was a sign of the zombie apocalypse.
Trailer Park Boys actor and former Jonovision host Jonathan Torrens also appreciated the tweet, writing, “Didn’t think I could love PEI more (sic).”
